Alpha Versions
We started off with humbler beginnings as a GPT3 connector with Google Sheets
Iteration by Joyce Yu Hui Tan from Hwa Chong Institution
Allows for Remarks Co-pilot to include relevant phrases from the comment bank in cockpit, based on the original tool by Lee Kah How/String.
First created May 18, 2023, after String’s Tech Talk.
Subsequent iterations included customisations and finetuning based on institutional needs, concerns and feedback, as well as linking frontend & backend spreadsheets via IMPORT function to conceal API key.
How this was achieved:
- Inserted reference comments from Comment Bank into Google Sheet
- Tagged each comment with 3 relevant adjectives, with the help of CherGPT. Then, using a join array formula on the main Sheet, comments are matched to the student’s adjectives. (inspired by hashtagging from social media)
- CherGPT then combines these inputs (adjectives, matching comment bank phrases, evidence, AFIs) to write a comment for the student, that fits both the school’s writing criteria and incorporates comment bank phrases.
Iterations by Mathew Lim from National Junior College
Steps:
- Write the relevant adjectives and evidence in Column B and C.
- Write the gender (Male or Female) in Column D. This prevents CherGPT from using the wrong gender pronouns.
- Click on ‘Generate’ to get CherGPT to generate the remark in Column F.
- Copy and paste the generated remark in Column F to Column I using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+Shift+V.
- Edit the remark in Column I if necessary.
- Click on ‘Do not Generate’ in Column E to prevent CherGPT from generating a new remark when reopening the Google Sheet file.
- If desired, the teacher can get CherGPT to generate a new remark in Column F and paste it into Column I. By comparing the two CherGPT-generated remarks, the teacher can write their preferred student’s comment.
Note: the alpha version is being deployed in some cases and some schools prefer it due to the flexibility it accommodates.
We have couple other iterations that will be shared here (caa @August 22, 2023)
