Problem
Some school administrators spend up to 4hrs a day resetting passwords centrally
Students lose learning time locked out of their devices, accounts, namely:
- Windows laptop itself
- Student Learning Space (SLS)
- Google Suite
Target
Primary school students who struggle to remember passwords/ prone to requiring manual password resets
School teachers/ admins who are handlings manual password reset workflow
Solution
Possible concepts
- Hardware auth like Yubikeys
- Passkeys/ password manager like 1Password
- Clever-like implementation of static QR codes for auth
- No auth (some using entire hardware bypass)
1 Yubikey/ physical passkeys
hardware authentication that is able to unlock Windows laptop, also be registered to authenticate/ clear google auth (and eventually SLS/ MIMS passkey integration)
Simple/ realistic: Every teacher to have a yubikey as backup auth for students that the teacher is responsible for
Estimated explicit costs: $100 per teacher
Estimated implicit costs: retrieval, administrative handling of physical passkeys to register/ deregister for students
Ideal: A pair per kid (1 to carry around, 1 in locker)
- Every teacher 1 master key
- Every parent 1 backup key
Estimated explicit costs: $100 per student
Estimated implicit costs: retrieval, administrative handling of physical passkeys
